The CD shines brightest when the artists’ own creative touch comes into play. “Tango Vagabundo,” dedicated to Jörn Kitzhöfer, brings a palpable sense of movement and rhythmic freshness. Here, the band’s distinct character shines through, and an atmosphere takes shape—with a beautiful balance of melancholy and a sense of new beginnings. The echoes of klezmer and Yiddish tango also lend the project a distinctive flavor that piques curiosity. Thus, “Nostalgias” remains a cohesive release. A nice blend of the tried-and-true and original touches—an album with promising ideas, though one wishes it had taken more risks and shown greater confidence in its own strengths.
