Piazzolla's little opera in 16 pictures, which has long since been performed not infrequently, was performed in 2016 at the Theater Bonn in a joint production with Deutschlandfunk. The Beethoven Orchestra Bonn under the baton of conductor Christopher Sprenger delineates the symphonic sound narrative with its alternation of vocal and recitative numbers and instrumental music with fine dynamic differentiation, elastic drive, joy of nuance, sound sensuality in the lyrical passages and sound power in the rhythmically dominant or dramatic execution. Formally carried by this interpretive care, the vocal parts shine: Luciana Mancini, mezzo-soprano with a classical background, sings the showcase aria of the operita,Yo Soy Maria, as well as its 'shadow variation' Milonga de la Anunciación with defiant pride and shimmering fragility.
