The book shows that the history of the tango can be interpreted as a battle of the sexes, as a subtle rebellion by women against patriarchy.

Accordingly, at its very core, the tango was a creation of women, who used it as a vehicle for liberation from male dominance.
Men fought against the freedoms women claimed wherever they could—and the “immoral” tango served as a central symbol of this struggle.
