The title says it all: the 'Quinteto Emedea', founded only in 2016, has dedicated itself entirely to modern tango and (for the time being) exclusively to the music of Astor Piazzolla.
For the young quintet, he was, as the CD's booklet says, "a man of extremes, an insatiable creative spirit who was never satisfied with the mere legacy of the great era of 1940s tango." Among the many new recordings of Piazzolla's repertoire for his 100th birthday, the album Modernísmo stands out for its focus on lesser-known pieces and arrangements by the pioneer of tango nuevo.
The musicians are from France, Poland and Argentina and all have classical musical training. You can hear how much effort they put into their musical research. (Review in Tangodanza 88 - 4.2021)
