Jürgen Karthe addresses these two crucial questions in his book From the Concertina to the Bandoneón. The author answers these questions surprisingly and diplomatically. And adds a third option to the discussion: Chemnitz and Carl Friedrich Uhlig.

The book is made comprehensive by the accompanying CD. It is a kind of acoustic photo album in which you can musically observe the concertina 'growing up' into a bandoneon. This book is a very good introduction for people who want to get to know the background to the instrument that has become the unmistakable voice of the tango.
